A Note about Images
Since the beginning of June I have made a concerted effort to post images that will load quickly. I am finding, though, that the resolution of many of these images is less than satisfactory. Rather than go back to my earlier practice of posting images that take a longer time to load, I’ve come up with a compromise.
Now I will place a “Hi-Res” link next to any image that I think requires it. This link will take you to a medium-sized or large-sized image on Flickr. That image will be larger than the one in the post, but while at Flickr you can choose to view the image at its original size as well, which will be larger still. Here’s what the screen above the image at Flickr looks like. Dimensions under the various options change depending on the original size of the image.
Here’s a sample image for you to try. I found this caterpillar crawling around the trunk of the Myrcia splendens and was lucky to catch any image at all, it was moving so quickly! Click on the image to see the best version that has been uploaded to the blog and then click on the Hi-Res link next to it to see the image at Flickr. That image will open in a new window or a new tab, depending on your browser settings.
I’ve added a page called “About the Images” containing this same information. It appears as one of the tabs under the banner and will be available there for your reference in the future.
Note added, April 22, 2010: I’m revisiting my use of Flickr in connection with this blog. I hope to find a simpler (for me) way to make higher resolution images available with no additional work for the reader.

This seems like a good solution. It works well.
Thanks, Barbee’
I’m still mulling over this strategy. I may be making my life more difficult than necessary, and who needs that. I’ll keep thinking about it.
