Thanks for both your comments. Now that I've learned about Google Bookmarks, I like them. I like being able to access them from the Google toolbar on either of my computers without going to a separate web site to do so.

However, del.icio.us seems better for tagging - I agree with max on that. I think I just went overboard and imported ALL my bookmarks to del.icio.us. I'll see if I can't create a new del.icio.us account just for botany sites. That should simplify things.

Also, I just found on Flickr, in the What Plant is That group, a discussion on Plant ID resources. Some really good suggestions there.

Oh, check out wists, which adds a visual component to the del.icio.us-type bookmarking and tagging.

I started using del.icio.us for my botany bookmarks about a year ago, and I think it works better than any of the alternatives, as long as you tag early and often. I do wish it had more elaborate sorting capabilities.

You're certainly right about tags. I started out being way too general ("botany" as a tag?). So it might serve to go through my bookmarks and add more specific tags.

I'd not heard of Google Bookmarks, oddly. So thanks for the tip. I'll look into that.

I've been having difficulty with this as well, though my problem spans a number of different topics.

I think Google Bookmarks works pretty well as long as every page is tagged correctly. I can then search for relevant material by category.

Probably not much help, but let me know if anyone comes up with a satisfying solution; I could use the info as well.

P.S. - I like the new layout!
